What a gift!

It's been toooo long since I up-dated the blog! Sorry for that - after our Thanksgiving trip to the Oregon coast, we had Stella & Marcus & Iris (the grand-pug) visit for early Christmas, then we went to my mom, Bev, and then Jon's Mom, Cindy's for "Christmas", then we went back to Portland and the beach for New Year's, and as soon as we got back home, we got on the plane and trekked to China for 2 weeks for our annual factory visits.
Whew!!! It's a miracle I even remember that I have a blog!

Christmas 2009 took some planning.... Here is what several people on our list got! Big picnic Baskets full (10+ jars in each basket) of home-preserved sunshine and love.
Jon used our Hot Foil embossing machines and brown paper circles to create the labels, then he proceeded to create a recipe booklet - using pictures and recipes from Robbin's 2009 blog - that called for the basket ingredients. He published the booklet via Mac - isn't it professional looking?!


In addition to much of the already documented canned goods, I infused Stolichnaya Vodka with vanilla beans, and also created a pepper and thyme while wine vinegar for the baskets. We filled in the empty spots with packets of orange peel candy!


One of the funnest things I made this year was for Marcus - a "Secret Identity" to keep him warm on the slopes!

Yes, I have been Knitting...and singing...and cooking!

Firstly, the Knitting! It is being blocked (so that the bottom eyelet row will cradle a lovely red ribbon to tie about the chin!) but here's a little Baby Bonnet hot off the needles, to go along with the tiny Magic Baby Slippers of a few weeks ago: These are for friends Kellie and Josh - expecting their first baby in just a couple more months!!! I think the colors are "uni-sex" enough to go one way or the other..... Then, on our "romantic vacation" to Ottawa a couple of weeks ago, I started these Spiralicious Socks for something to knit on the plane. Jon was absolutely floored when, half-way there, I declared the lacey pattern a misinterpretation of knitting nature. The colours in this yarn change about every 2-3 inches - resulting in a fabulous palette with slubs and interest at every loop. But this yarn.....forced my lovely leaf-lace pattern into hiding. Zombie Opera!!

Stella's dancing fingers have been working on music for a new opera production which PREMIERES this weekend in Portland Oregon. (pssst, she's the tiny blonde concert mistress in the pit!) Here's a little bit about Stella: A student of Carol Sindell, Stella studies violin performance at Portland State University. She is a member of the PSU Symphony Orchestra as well as concertmaster of the New Music Ensemble at Portland State. As an advocate and fan of New Music, Stella is proud to be friends with some of Portland's most talented young composers (Reed Reimer and Ben Larson included), who give her lots of great opportunities to perform their work. Originally from Missoula, Montana, Stella lives in Portland with her partner Marcus. She loves to make art and surround herself with the lovely people she's lucky to call her friends and family.
