We got Inked!!!

Stella and I went to the tattoo parlour today, to visit with my Ravelry (knitting) friend, Gina, and have her administer Mother/Daughter tatts. Marcus accompanied us for support and was in charge of documenting the whole dang thing. (Thanks Marcus!!) So when Stella was still "Katie" , a bunch of my friends and our children went camping every summer - Grrrl Camp!- and every trip, Katie would insist on using a sharpie pen to draw matching triskelian "tattoos" on our ankles. I would laugh and tell her that when I was "old" I'd get a tattoo with her.... she's had a few now, but this was my first (guess 50 is "old-enough" ha!) Here are some pictures to show how brave I was, and how very small it really is......
Mine is the Triskelian image that so enchants me (and appears on the Flag of the Isle of Mann, fyi). Stella's is a folded paper peace crane. Both of us got them on the inside of our left ankle..... forever :):):)
It was over before I could even squeeze out a tear -I was actually rather amazed that it was done! Stell's was larger, and she had to take a short break, but Gina had some really good chocolate stashed for just such moments- wow! Next time, I think I'll go for a larger one just for the candy........

Medicare for All should be our goal

" Under the greatest adversity there exists the greatest potential for doing good, both for oneself and others ." ~Dalai Lama And one of Montana's Methodist Ministers, Joan Uda, wrote an editorial for the Great Falls Tribune this week, asking essentially, What would God think of this? Here's a small excerpt: I'm startled by the frenzied opposition to health care reform. Are these good people Christians? Do they recall that Jesus will judge us not by how well we've kept our earnings for ourselves but by how we have cared for "the least of these"? Matthew 25:31-46. This is a matter of salvation. I don't believe God supports any particular solution for health care. But I do believe God wants everyone, even the least, included. And I believe Jesus Christ calls us to display our best Christian virtues in the debate on these issues. Here's George Lakoff's perspective on how language influences the discussion on Health Care policies this seas...

December Doings

It's been a while since I up-dated, mainly because it's the holidays, and we are running about singing at every opportunity, working on Christmas gifts, making pies, catching up with darling daughters and friends, knitting on more gifts, choosing the scotch for the Christmas Athel Brose, admiring the new candlesticks we received as a gift from the Wans ...... it's a good time of year :) * the Scotch choices include this single malt from the area our friends, Peter and Joni live -named after the Spey River near Glasgow! * It finally snowed, first time this year on December 12 th -very late, and instantly went into the negative numbers for degrees..... with wind chill it has been as low as -23! * the Reindeer Games hat is being made for a gift - shhhhhhhhhh !! don't tell :) *Jon's considerable pie making skills were married to Robbin's filling fandango, and we came up with a pie filled with apples, cultured sour cream (+one egg!), walnuts, coconut and lots of fr...

My Husband, My Hero

So, most of you know that Jon and I are "involved" in helping Obama win this very critical election..... Jon, with his gift of "soothing rhetoric" (as Stella calls it) has been canvassing and phone calling voters in Western Montana almost every day for the past month. But this morning, he had a once-in-a-lifetime experience. At her request, Jon drove a 63 year old woman to the courthouse, where she voted (for Obama) for the first time in her life!!! WHY did she want to vote now? Because this time, it was "important".
